Polymers for potential applications in the field of telecommunications, optical signal processing etc. has triggered interest in optical materials with nonlinear optical properties. Organic NLO polymers have the added advantages of integrability with different materials, mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and good processability for safe optical devices. The work done consisted of: Synthesis of novel methacrylates attached through varying spacers to donor acceptor end functionalised substituted azobenzenes, the polymerization and their physico-chemical characterisations. Synthesis of new acrylates attached through varying spacers to donor acceptor end functionalised substituted azobenzenes, the polymerisation and their physico-chemical characterisations. Synthesis of styrenes attached at para position through varying spacers to donor acceptor end functionalised substituted azobenzenes, polymerisation and their physico-chemical characterisations. Synthesis of epoxypropanes attached through varying spacers to donor acceptor end functionalised substituted azobenzenes, polymerisation and their physico-chemical characterisations. Synthesis of poly maleimides attached through varying spacers to donor acceptor end functionalised substituted azobenzenes and their physico chemical characterisations. Synthesis of polyacrylates and methacrylates attached through varying spacers to magnesons and their physico chemical characterisations. Corona poling has been done on the spin-coated polymer films, were evaluated for their nonlinear optical properties and properties were related to structures. Photoluminescence and electroluminescence studies on these side chain polymers. Copolymerisation of the most efficient monomers. The physico chemical characterisations include UV, IR, 1H NMR, MASS for the monomers and IR, UV, 1H NMR for polymers: The molecular weights of polymers were determined by GPC/ VPO. The thermal transitions were determined by DSC and the mesophases were identified by polarising microscopy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
